Adult Service License seen to be unfair by many Dancing Businesses reports TMC-TPK.com

(USGovernment-News.Com, August 23, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- The Star Phoenix has reported that Bella Kaje, the owner of KJ’s Party Favors in Saskatoon, has chosen to fight back against being grouped together with other adult businesses. Kaje is upset with new legislation relating to the adult services and claims that it is discriminatory against her business and is unfair. She is also wants to challenge the licensing fees which she believes are over the top and detrimental to her business.

KJ’s Party Favors provides dancers for parties including bachelor events. Kaje believes that her business should not be lumped together with escorts and massage parlour workers. She said that, “We provide entertainment, not sexual favours.”

However, Alan Wallace the manager of planning and development for Saskatoon begs to differ. According to him, “This business is indeed captured (under the bylaw).” He goes to further explain that, “What we’re trying to do is … make sure they don’t have 15-year-olds in front of men performing a striptease.”

According to the new bylaws, an adult service agency license will be a $500 one-time fee. There will be further charges of $200 for each renewal. Performers will be asked to pay an initial $250 and then an extra $100 for each renewal. The total licensing cost to KJ’s party favors is $2500, which includes the business license and the license for its eight employees.

Kaje's business is also trying to remove the taboo from stripteasing in Saskatoon. In addition to the negative views of society, she also has to face strict laws that prohibit stripteases in establishments that possess liquor licenses. Kaje goes on to say that, “(Our workers) have no problem being nude. It’s just entertainment, that’s all it is. Some of our girls like to be naked and I don’t see why we are condemning people if they want to be naked.”

KJ’s Party Favours is not the only adult business in the area that is facing difficulties because of the week old bylaw. A massage parlour in the area called Farmer’s Daughters Studio has stated that they will be acquiring the licenses but will be forced to find a new location for the business because of restrictions on where adult services can be offered.

Kaje has gotten in touch with a lawyer interested in her case and is thinking of taking a legal route. She will use the Charter of Rights and Freedom to lodge an appeal.
