Miami, Florida - Hickey Law Firm, P.A. filed three cases recently on behalf of passengers who were seriously injured on cruise ships. In these lawsuits, maritime attorney John H. (Jack) Hickey and Hickey Law Firm, P.A. are seeking damages for injuries they allege resulted from the cruise industryÂ’s failure to adhere to basic safety standards.
These three cases all claim that passengers suffered severe, permanent injury due to dangerous conditions and cruise line negligence. Two of HickeyÂ’s cases are filed against the Carnival Cruise Corporation and one against Celebrity Cruise Lines, and all concern serious, lasting injury suffered by passengers onboard cruise ships.
“This is what we do every day of the week,” Hickey said. “We represent passengers against cruise lines. We know applicable law. We negotiate on your behalf just as we do on behalf of all the passengers we’ve ever represented against the cruise lines.”
In these three separate cases, complaints allege that passengers suffered debilitating injuries resulting in permanent disability and could have been avoided with proper care. In two situations, passengers were injured from falls on wet, unmarked floors. In the third case, a passenger was struck in the face by an unsecured object on the shipÂ’s deck. Reports show that hundreds of people have suffered severe injuries on cruise ships in recent years, but numbers could be higher, as the industry is frequently criticized for keeping inadequate and incomplete data on accidents.
The attorneys at Hickey Law Firm, P.A. offer 64 years of combined experienced defending their clients rights, and Hickey has fought since 1980 to obtain justice and help for injured people. In the aftermath of the Costa Concordia disaster early this year, journalists around the world turned to Hickey for his perspective and insight into the wreckÂ’s legal ramifications and what passengers and their families could expect. His past experience as an attorney for cruise lines offers him a unique perspective on maritime law, and his knowledge of Florida law is an asset to clients, since many cruise lines are based in Miami and thus subject to Florida laws.
