Risk of Mesh Complications Greater in Transvaginal Procedure, Warns Morgan & Morgan

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 14, 2011 ) Orlando, Florida -- The vaginal mesh attorneys at Morgan and Morgan are alerting the public to a new FDA announcement regarding the trans vaginal placement of surgical meshes used to treat pelvic organ prolapse. The FDA has announced that the surgical placement of the mesh through the vagina can put patients at a greater risk for mesh complications than other surgical options. In light of this announcement, the vaginal mesh lawyers at the firm would like to hear from women who suffered mesh erosion, urinary problems or other mesh complications following their pelvic organ prolapse repair surgery, as these individuals may have legal recourse. To find out if you can pursue compensation for your transvaginal mesh complications, visit http://www.forthepeople.com/vaginal-mesh-lawsuits--11-3179.html and complete the free case review form.

The FDA has previously alerted the public to mesh complications associated with the transvaginal placement of surgical mesh in the repair of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI). In October 2008, it released a public health notification stating that it had received more than 1000 reports of mesh complications from nine separate manufacturers. Mesh erosion, urinary problems, infection and pain during sex were among the mesh complications reported to the agency. Since this announcement, the number of reported mesh complications has increased. The FDA received 1503 reports of mesh complications associated with pelvic organ prolapse repair surgery from 2008 to 2010, five times as many as the agency received from 2005 to 2007. These reports of mesh complications did not always distinguish between abdominal and transvaginal placement, however.

Based on first hand observation of the growing number of their clients experiencing vaginal mesh complications, the medical device lawyers of Morgan & Morgan, in conjunction with co-counsel, have advocated for stronger warnings to the public about the frequency and severity of such complications. Morgan and Morgan applauds the FDA's decision to issue its recent alert in an effort to spread public awareness of the dangers of surgical mesh.
