The attorneys working with Class Action.org would like to hear from consumers, as the FTC has charged Oreck with making allegedly false and deceptive claims regarding the germ-killing and illness prevention ability of the Oreck Halo vacuum and ProShield Plus air cleaner. According to the FTC allegations, Oreck falsely claimed that the Halo vacuum and ProShield Plus air cleaner can prevent or reduce the risk of the flu, as well as other ailments, such as the common cold, caused by viruses, molds, allergens and bacteria. Furthermore, the FTC alleged that the company deceived consumers in stating that the Halo vacuum eliminates nearly all household germs and allergens, and that its ultraviolet light is effective against dust mites, mold, germs, bacteria and viruses embedded in carpets. The FTC reached a settlement with Oreck requiring the company to stop making allegedly false and unproven statements until it has scientific evidence to support such claims.

Consumers who bought an Oreck ProShield Plus air cleaner or Halo vacuum may be able to participate in an Oreck class action suit in light of these allegations. Potentially, an Oreck class action would allow consumers the chance to collectively file a claim to seek recovery for the cost of their Halo vacuum or ProShield Plus air cleaner, which retailed for $599.95 and $399.95 respectively.
