(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 30, 2011 ) Jacksonville, Florida – Morgan and Morgan is pleased to announce it has recovered a $40 million tobacco litigation verdict on behalf of the husband and daughter of a woman who died after smoking two packs of cigarettes a day for 36 years. On April 27, a Jacksonville jury ruled in favor of the plaintiffs with a $6 million verdict, which was divided equally between the husband and daughter, and returned the following day to award $34 million in punitive damages, an amount which exceeded the attorneys’ request for exemplary damages by $4 million.

She stopped smoking in 2002, but by this point, her disease was already in its end stages. Patty died in 2009 at the age of 60, before this tobacco liability case reached trial.
