ALEC Launches "States Triumph over Federal Mandate"

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 29, 2011 ) WASHINGTON D.C -- Last week, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) boosted its health care campaign by launching the “States Triumph over Federal Mandate” phase, recognizing the widespread progress that state legislatures have achieved in overcoming ObamaCare’s detrimental restrictions. Since the passage of ObamaCare one year ago, state legislators have galvanized a nationwide pushback against the new federal mandates, and continue to preserve citizens’ rights to choose their health care.

“ALEC congratulates the states for their successful fight against against ObamaCare,” said Christie Herrera, director of ALEC’s Health and Human Forces Task Force. “Their resilience and determination have paid off: ObamaCare is failing. The states are well on their way to delivering what the American people want, which is the freedom to make their own decisions.”

Many legislators throughout the U.S., including some from Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Missouri and Texas, all contributed to ALEC’s “States Triumph over Federal Mandate” declaration, affirming the states’ struggle against ObamaCare. Only days after the movement was launched, the Kansas Senate passed HB 2182 by a vote of 37-2, preserving the people’s right to purchase or refuse health insurance. In a similar vein, Nevada filed a new bill instituting the Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act, making it the latest of 44 states to introduce protections against the federal mandate.

As part of the “States Triumph over Federal Mandate” campaign, ALEC held a nationwide “Tweet-a-thon,” sending out a series of Twitter posts with data and figures on ObamaCare’s negative effects. ALEC gained hundreds of new followers on Twitter as members and legislators around the country forwarded the posts.

In just one yearÂ…

• 44 states have announced legislation based on ALEC’s Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act.
• 26 states are suing the federal government for ObamaCare’s unconstitutional mandates.
• Public resistance to ObamaCare continues to grow.

ALECÂ’s Health and Human Services Task Force has also been a national leader in promoting free-market, pro-patient health care reform at the state level. Since 2005, 38 states have enacted model healthcare legislation drafted by ALECÂ’s Health and Human Services Task Force.
