In August 2010, DePuy Orthopaedics issued a recall of the ASR XL Acetabular Hip System and ASR Hip Resurfacing System due to research which revealed that a greater number of patients than expected required revision surgery. Like the recalled DePuy ASR hip systems, the Pinnacle hip is a metal-on-metal device which may release small metal particles as its components rub against each other. In addition to metal poisoning, other DePuy Pinnacle complaints may include hip implant failure, unexplained hip pain and hip implant loosening.
