On February 16, 2011, attorneys at the firm recovered substantial verdicts on behalf of their clients in four separate Florida lawsuits. This is the second time in less than a year that lawyers at Morgan and Morgan recovered multiple plaintiffs’ verdicts on the same day, in different venues.
A trip and fall case handled by Nick Panagakis, an attorney in Morgan and MorganÂ’s MorganÂ’s Orlando office, produced the largest verdict of the day. A gross verdict of $402,506.95 was recovered on behalf of a 74-year-old woman who was injured in a trip and fall accident at a trailer park where she previously resided. According to the lawsuit, the client walked off the edge of a sidewalk due to defective lighting and suffered a segmental humeral fracture of her right dominant arm. The client had to undergo an open reduction internal fixation surgery as a result of her injuries. The defendant was found 95% negligent for the trip and fall accident.
The second largest verdict came in Manatee County, where attorneys Sumeet Kaul and Vilma Martinez recovered a $280,700 verdict for their client in a lawsuit against Allstate. Mr. Kaul and Ms. Martinez represented a client who sustained annular tears with no herniations.
The third jury verdict was recovered by Greg Bosseler and Jason Gelinas, attorneys at the Fort Myers office of Morgan and Morgan. Mr. Bosseler and Mr. Gelinas obtained $150,000 for a 47-year-old male who suffered neck and shoulder injuries in a four-car accident involving a dump truck on I-75.
Attorneys Hans Kennon and Bill Finn of Morgan and MorganÂ’s Orlando office also obtained jury verdict on February 16. Mr. Kennon and Mr. Finn tried a first party case against Nationwide arising from the theft of the plaintiffÂ’s vehicle. Nationwide claimed that the theft could not have occurred, because it was impossible to start the vehicle in question, a Jeep Cherokee, without the factory key. The expert for the plaintiff was able to hotwire and start the car, without a factory key, in the courthouse parking lot in less than three minutes, providing a strong case for the plaintiff. The verdict was awarded for $16,500 in actual cash value related to the theft and destruction of the plaintiffÂ’s vehicle.
