North Carolina Personal Injury Attorney David Daggett Presented the 2009 Ford Ironman Everyday Hero Award

(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 30, 2010 ) Winston-Salem, North Carolina – Personal injury attorney David Daggett recently received the Everyday Hero Award for the 2009 Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene. The Everyday Hero Award is presented to an athlete who has made a significant contribution to an individual, organization or charity while training for the Ironman competition, which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bicycle ride and 26.2 mile run. Mr. Daggett received this honor in recognition of his Safe Sober Prom Night Program which raises awareness about the dangers of drug and alcohol use.

Founded in 1991, the Safe Sober Prom Night Program was created to encourage teenagers to remain alcohol and drug free, particularly during prom time. The Program asks students to sign a pledge card, agreeing to refrain from alcohol and drug use during prom night. Approximately 450 high schools in North Carolina and South Carolina have participated in the program, and since its founding, more than 400,000 students have made the Safe Sober pledge.

Mr. Daggett has made hundreds of speeches and presentations, expressing the importance of remaining alcohol and drug-free. This spring alone, Mr. Daggett made over 50 appearances to entire student bodies, classrooms and at community events. During the early years of the program, Mr. Daggett used scare tactics to connect with teens; however, he now utilizes motivational stories from his Ironman competitions to encourage students to remain safe and sober. To date, Mr. Daggett has participated in 18 Ironman Competitions and continues to use Ironman metaphors to engage young people throughout the North Carolina area.

Safe Sober Prom Night was founded by Mr. Daggett and is sponsored by Daggett Shuler Attorneys At Law, a North Carolina law firm which handles personal injury and disability claims.
