Transvaginal Mesh Patch Complication Claims Investigated by ClassAction.org

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 10, 2010 ) New York, NY - ClassAction.org is currently investigating claims on behalf of women who have suffered serious complications after implantation of a transvaginal mesh patch. Reported transvaginal mesh side effects include infection, mesh erosion, urinary problems, and vaginal scarring. These complications can be severe and life-altering for some women.

Transvaginal mesh patches are designed for use in women suffering from Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) or Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), conditions that affect many women after pregnancy and childbirth. The transvaginal mesh patches are surgically implanted in order to alleviate symptoms associated with these conditions. However, more than 1,000 women have reported serious health problems relating to transvaginal mesh devices since 2005.

In October 2008, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public health notification alerting women of the health issues that have been linked to transvaginal mesh. Reported complications include infection, mesh erosion, urinary problems, vaginal scarring, and pain. Perforations of the bowel, bladder, or blood vessels and recurrence of POP and SUI have also been reported. Many patients suffering from transvaginal mesh complications must undergo additional surgeries in order to alleviate the symptoms. Blood transfusions, IV therapy, and drainage of hematomas or abscesses are additional treatments that may be required.
