Toyota Recall Alert Announced by Morgan & Morgan

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 01, 2010 ) Orlando, FL - The attorneys at Morgan & Morgan are alerting consumers of a potentially dangerous problem that has prompted a recall of several Toyota models. On January 21, 2010, Toyota recalled approximately 2.3 million vehicles due to a problem that can cause the gas pedal to stick. This issue has the potential to cause unexpected and uncontrollable acceleration, which could result in serious accidents.

This recall was announced after Toyota received reports of sticking accelerator pedal mechanisms in certain vehicles. It appears that this problem can occur when the gas pedal mechanism of some models wears down. When the mechanism wears down, it can become more difficult to press, slower to return to an idle position or stuck in a depressed position. The following models are affected by this recall:
• Certain 2009-2010 RAV4 and Corolla
• 2009-2010 Matrix
• 2005-2010 Avalon
• Certain 2010 Highlander
• 2007-2010 Tundra
• 2008-2010 Sequoia
• Certain 2007-2010 Camry

In November 2009, Toyota announced a recall of approximately 4.2 million cars after it was found that floor mats in the vehicles could interfere with the gas pedal and cause unintentional acceleration. Several days after the January 21 Toyota gas pedal recall, approximately 1 million vehicles were added to the list of models affected by the floor mat problem. In addition to several Toyota models, the floor mat recall also affects certain Lexus models and the 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe. Some vehicles are involved in both the gas pedal and floor mat recalls.
