Window Security Protection Film Saving Commercial Property

(USGovernment-News.Com, November 21, 2016 ) Montreal, Quebec -- Canadians are more concerned about the security of their commercial and residential properties than ever before. Mary Allen of Statistics Canada reported the Crime Severity Index (CSI) was higher in 2015 from 2014. It was noted that some of this increase in police-reported crimes was due to higher break and enter incidents and robbery. Canadians invest in alarm services, video surveillance and other measures to discourage damage and theft to their property. However, one of the weakest links in a property's security strategy are the windows. Considerable damage can happen quickly and often the perpetrator never gets caught.

One Montreal business experienced an attempted break and enter situation with their popular restaurant. Fortunately, the owner of the restaurant had recently installed a security protective film on the front windows of the building. The crime was committed on December 10, 2015, at approximately 4:15 am. The wanted man appeared in front of a restaurant located on Jean-Talon Street East and smashed a window in the storefront with a rock. While the outer glass pane shattered, the inside pane remained intact due to the protective security film installed. The person attempted to smash the window with a rock several times with no success. The person then threw a Molotov cocktail to start a fire and again with no success. The perpetrator fled on foot. The break and enter situation was captured on surveillance video.

Robert Brideau, President of Access Protection Solutions Inc. of Montreal comments, "Windows are one of the easiest entry points for the break and enter crimes. When windows are not properly reinforced with a protective film, the property owner is subject to major damages. In the case of the Montreal restaurant, the damage was only to the window. However, if the window had not been protected, the restaurant owner could have experienced theft of property within the building along with significant fire damages from the Molotov cocktail. The fire would have required closing the business for repairs and restoration along with the loss of employment for twelve employees. In addition to all of this, two families lived in apartments above the restaurant and their property and lives could have been in danger as well."

Residential and commercial property owners who are assessing their security needs must also consider strategies to address some of the weakest security points of their buildings. Windows often are overlooked for more elaborate and expensive security measures such as surveillance cameras and alarm systems. While this technology is necessary, windows should not be neglected.

Mr. Brideau adds, "It should be noted that for the attempted break and enter case in Montreal, a commercial property a few city blocks away suffered a fire around the same time. Sadly, they did not have their windows protected. The window security protective film is a consideration for street level commercial establishments and residential properties as well. This simple solution provides great peace of mind to the property or business owner. Insurance companies should also take notice of the potential damage costs of a window that is not protected vs. a window that is protected with security film. The amount of the insurance claim is substantially reduced when windows are protected."

Technology now exists and is available to property owners so a complete security strategy can be implemented for both commercial and residential buildings. Business and property owners need to be aware of the window security film technology and the potential benefits it provides.
