(USGovernment-News.Com, September 04, 2016 ) Boston, MA -- As reported by the U.S. News and World Report,the FDA is taking steps to combat the staggering increase in opioid related overdose deaths across the U.S. by providing stricter warnings about the dangers of combining opioids and sedatives. This comes after the rampant increase in overdoses caused by heroin laced with substances such as Fentanyl and Carfentanil, an elephant tranquilizer. As part of this initiative to spread awareness and prevent potentially deadly drug interactions, the FDA has added boxed warnings to nearly 400 different medications including opioid painkillers, certain cough medications, and benzodiazepine, which treats anxiety, insomnia, and seizure disorders. The boxed warning is the highest level offered by the FDA.
