FDA Strengthens Warnings for Overdose Dangers, Drug and Alcohol Rehab Boston Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, September 04, 2016 ) Boston, MA -- As reported by the U.S. News and World Report, the FDA is taking steps to combat the staggering increase in opioid related overdose deaths across the U.S. by providing stricter warnings about the dangers of combining opioids and sedatives. This comes after the rampant increase in overdoses caused by heroin laced with substances such as Fentanyl and Carfentanil, an elephant tranquilizer. As part of this initiative to spread awareness and prevent potentially deadly drug interactions, the FDA has added boxed warnings to nearly 400 different medications including opioid painkillers, certain cough medications, and benzodiazepine, which treats anxiety, insomnia, and seizure disorders. The boxed warning is the highest level offered by the FDA.

Drug and Alcohol Rehab Boston recognizes the need for this increase in public awareness and commends the FDA for taking steps to protect our communities. As a leading provider of heroin rehab in Boston, the facility has witnessed the incredible damage caused by opioids and drug combinations which pose a serious threat of overdose.

A representative of Drug and Alcohol Rehab Boston comments:
"When nearly 200 people overdose in Cincinnati in just 6 days we cannot assume the problem is isolated to Cincinnati. This overdose epidemic is a public health and safety crisis that affects the entire country; not one city or town goes untouched. Drug suppliers are attempting to cut cost while quadrupling profit and the price is the lives of people we know and love. There is no way to determine what batches are tainted and which aren't until it's too late; please don't assume you are above the risks. The FDA is taking action to help remedy this epidemic, but so must we. Do not hesitate to reach out for help in a crisis or intervene to prevent one. It could save a life."
