Drug Rehab Baltimore Comments on the CDC's Proposed Plan to Diminished Prescription of Opiates

(USGovernment-News.Com, December 24, 2015 ) Baltimore, MD -- The Charlotte Observer cites the Center for Disease Control's (CDC)attempts to quell the prescription of deadly opiate painkillers have been momentarily thwarted by intervention from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The CDC argues curtailing the prescription of opiate based pain medications will help to curb rising overdose fatalities throughout the county. Yet both the FDA and big Pharma producers are threatening to issue formal complaints and bar the passage of the CDC's proposal, on the grounds of insufficient evidence.

The sale of opiate based pain medications, and other prescription medications totaled $9 billion last year.

In response to the kickback, the CDC has opened their policy for public commentary for 30 days. Dr. Tom Frieden, the helm of the CDC stresses waiting for further research to be conducted will endanger more lives. Under the CDC's proposed policy, opiate pain relievers would serve as a last defense tactic to address pain, in favor of non-opiate based pain relievers and physical therapy. This approach to therapy is intended to mend the underlying pain, reshaping modern medicine and decreasing opiate related deaths.

Drug Rehab Baltimore applauds the CDC's plan to reduce opiate related deaths and overdoses, and agrees with using opiate pain prescriptions as a last resort for treatment. An associate from Drug Rehab Baltimore comments, "It is imperative he CDC's suggestions are put into effect immediately. Our over-reliance on opiate medications to treat chronic pain has lead many down the road of addiction and subsequent overdose. The agencies fighting the reform do not seem to understand the dire state of the nation. There is no excuse for our prolific prescription of powerful narcotics. If we do not seek to institute sufficient policies espoused with updated training for medical professionals, we will continue to remain ineffective in curtailing the rates of addiction and overdose in the nation."
