One-third of those fatal accidents involved someone under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Vincent Shirey attributes the increase in impaired driving accidents and deaths to the reunions and festivities surrounding what many consider the beginning of the holiday season.
Nearly 38 percent of the automotive crashes in Ohio in 2014 involved impaired drivers. These accidents are entirely preventable.
