(USGovernment-News.Com, November 16, 2015 ) Boston, MA -- The Boston Globe reports that Governor Charlie Baker is calling for more focused attention on the ever growing opioid addiction epidemic afflicting the state. Governor Baker took special note to mention the increased occurrence among military veterans. Three homeless veterans died within the past several weeks, as reported by the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, which has been blamed on the ease of access to drugs just outside of the center. Baker and other activists for veterans have called for increased specialized care and availability of recovery services across the state.
"The plight of addiction encompassing this country is detrimental to all, but the effect on the veteran community is especially telling. We are failing to help our protectors heal and live well upon returning to this country. The abhorrently high rate of substance abuse, suicide, and homelessness among our returning military men and women. The American community must come together to rectify this; by providing specialized care and support to those who have served this country honorably, we can begin to repay them for their courage and sacrifice."
