New Bill May Ban Tobacco Sales in Philly Drug Stores, Drug Rehab Newark Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 18, 2015 ) Newark, NJ -- A new bill introduced to Philadelphia city council may remove cigarettes from the shelves of stories which feature pharmacies, clinics, or other health services. Philadelphia Magazine reports the bill was proposed by the administration of Mayor Michael Nutter and is predicted to reduce tobacco sales in Philadelphia as much as six percent. If passed, the bill would affect stores such as CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and all other stores which provide any type of health service.

This follows the cigarette tax introduced in the city in 2014 and a ban of smoking in public parks, restaurants, bars, and other establishments. Those measures have decreased smoking in Philadelphia nearly five percent, though there is debate as to rather the city can legally ban cigarette sales. As a facility offering addiction treatment in Newark, Drug Rehab Newark is dedicated to the health and wellbeing of American citizens. Drug Rehab Newark commends Mayor Nutter on his dedication to reducing smoking in one of America's major cities.

A representative of Drug Rehab Newark stated:

"With the dangers of cigarette smoking and smoking in general well documented, the steps Mayor Nutter is taking to ensure the health of his citizens are admirable. While tobacco is legal, the health risks and consequences for both smokers and those exposed to the toxic byproduct of smoking are serious and life-threatening. Mayor Nutter and his administration are attempting to protect those who do not smoke from damages caused by contact with cigarette smoke. They are also taking measures to discourage people from continuing with or picking up the habit. Cigarettes are known to be extremely addictive and the habit is hard to shake; these initiatives taken in Philly can help improve and save lives."
