Flakka Claims Youngest Victim in Broward County, West Palm Beach Drug Rehab Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 16, 2015 ) West Palm Beach, FL -- Flakka's detrimental effects on communities across Florida and spreading into the midwest have been well documented. However, the Broward Medical Examiner has ruled the drug was a direct cause for the premature birth and death of a baby boy born in July. CBS12 reported the mother smoked Flakka throughout her pregnancy and gave birth about 31 weeks into the pregnancy, which is nine weeks premature. The boy weighed only three pounds, two ounces and died only an hour after birth.

The autopsy revealed traces of alpha-PVP, or Flakka, in the infant's bloodstream, heart, and umbilical cord. While relatively little is known about the drug, the negative effects on the heart, central nervous system, and thermoregulation are well-documented. As a drug rehabilitation center offering addiction treatment in West Palm Beach, West Palm Beach Drug Rehab understands the serious threat Flakka poses to the community. South Florida is the epicenter of the Flakka abuse epidemic and facilities like West Palm Beach Drug Rehab are on the front lines of the battle.

A representative of West Palm Beach Drug Rehab said,

"The difficult reality of the substance abuse is that it does not only affect those who abuse drugs and alcohol. When considering the effects on pregnant women and unborn children, lack of available information or misinformation can lead to disaster and misfortune. With the tragic news of this loss of life, we hope to see people think about and approach substance use and dependency more seriously. There is a definite misunderstand among recreational drug users who often believe themselves above the negative side effects for a number of reasons. Unfortunately that naivety has far reaching consequences."
