Addiction Awareness Rally in National Mall Draws Attention, Cincinnati Drug Rehab Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 13, 2015 ) Cincinnati, OH -- On Sunday, October 4th thousands gathered in the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to bring attention to a national health crisis that has affected an estimated 85 million people: substance abuse and dependency. Families of those who succumb to their demons and the disease of addiction as well as people in recovery for substance abuse disorders spoke at the gathering.

According to The Washington Post, the U.S. Surgeon General, the Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, and television talk-show host and surgeon Dr. Oz were key speakers and the event included performances by artists affected by substance abuse: The Fray, Steve Tyler, Sheryl Crow, and Aloe Blacc. The intended outcome of raising awareness of the epidemic engulfing the United States was a success; it garnered attention from news and media outlets across the country.

As a facility for drug rehab in Cincinnati serving Ohio and the entire country, Cincinnati Drug Rehab recognizes and expresses its gratitude to those who used this event as a platform to make their voices heard on this important issue. A representative for Cincinnati Drug Rehab commented:

"To see thousands gather for such a worthy cause is such a gratifying experience. All those present for the event shared a common thread of experiencing the devastating effects of substance abuse disorders and they chose to turn their pain and loss into a purpose. Their voices are crucial in bringing the proper attention to this silent scourge and forcing people to take notice. When everyone understands that this is a disease that needs to be treated, not a character flaw to be ignored or shunned, then we can begin the real healing process for the country."
