FIU Honor Student Turned Kingpin Sentenced to 14 Years, Miami Drug Rehab Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 12, 2015 ) Miami, FL -- The Miami Herald reported that David McConnell has been sentenced to 14 years in state prison following a conviction late September 2015. The former university student was one of South Florida's top Molly smugglers and suppliers between 2012 and 2014; he oversaw a drug ring of at least five cohorts and used the internet to order methylone- the key component to Molly. He masterminded the smuggling operation by having the drug shipped to various locations throughout Miami and wire transferring money back to the Chinese supply company.

McConnell faced a maximum of 20 years in prison. His lawyer argued that he was intelligent and full of potential, but struggles with substance abuse and psychological problems led him astray. The judge took this into consideration but prior drug trafficking charges lead to a significant sentence.

As a drug treatment facility in Miami, Miami Drug Rehab is experienced with the effects of drug trafficking in the South Florida area and thus supports the outcome of McConnell's trial. The psychoactive drug and similar substances have ravished Miami and surrounding areas, making South Florida a focal point in the nation's battle against substance abuse.

A representative of Miami Drug Rehab commented:

"While it is always unfortunate when a young life is affected so drastically by their poor choices, the ever present supply of these substances is the main threat to the recovery of South Florida and the rest of the country. Mr. McConnell's operation put the entire population of Miami and its neighbors at risk; as a drug trafficking offender he likely contributed to the continued suffering of those with substance abuse disorders who have not yet received help for their condition. He and his co-conspirators may have indirectly contributed to overdoses, deaths, and the onset of addiction in thousands of people. Molly is an incredibly dangerous substance in that it is nearly impossible to be certain of each dose's chemical makeup or potency. His sentencing, however unfortunate, will help reduce the drugs on the streets of Miami."
