Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson reveals the common method prevalent with similar car break-ins. "The one common denominator is that these thieves are just checking vehicles for unlocked doors and then stealing items."
He states that if residents learn to lock their car doors, they can spare themselves "the grief of being victimized."
Breckenridge agrees that most car theft, in whole or by part, can be avoided when vehicles are properly secured at the absence of its owner.

Nowadays, criminals have the bravado and the tools to do atrocities within a few minutes, and the best thing Ferndale residents can do is to make their cars less of an attractive target.
