(USGovernment-News.Com, March 10, 2015 ) Jackson, MS -- As anyone that has suffered from violence at the hands of someone they trusted can attest to: recovering from a situation like that can take years. Especially when a person is in a relationship with the abuser, getting back on the track to a normal life can seem impossible.
The Mississippi Center for Violence Prevention (MCVP) lends a hand to these victims by not only helping them work through the violence they have suffered, but better preventing it from happening in the future as well. This is done through a number of programs offered at the center, such as temporary shelter, counseling, and numerous workshops.
The MCVP offers a 24-Hour Crisis and Referral Line at 800-266-4198, or 601-932-4198 in Central Mississippi. A person can call these lines at any hour to get help and advice if they have suffered from violence or abuse, or witnessed it happening to someone they care about.
Funds for the MCVP have been raised in part by the Second Chance program, located on Roberts Drive in Pearl, MS. Here, items are donated to either the shelter clients or sold to profit the organization as a whole. In addition, donations are given by churches, patrons, and local businesses (such as Richard Schwartz & Associates). Federal and state grants also help fund the organization. Volunteers are also welcome. For more information, visit http://mscvp.org
