(USGovernment-News.Com, December 10, 2014 ) Jackson, MS -- Sixty children that were enlisted on the Salvation Army Angel Tree this year will get the grand opportunity to participate in a Christmas adventure unlike any other.
With help from the Mississippi Air National Guard, local radio station Y101, Jackson personal injury attorney Richard Schwartz, and many other contributors, the “Flight to the North Pole” was able to set out for its 7th annual trip.
The event started when the children and their parents were strapped into a real airplane – a US AirForce C17, in fact. They were being flown to meet a swarm of excited elves, and of course, Santa himself.
Upon their arrival, the scene was like any other as the ramp came down from the plane and opened to a crowd of festively-dressed elves that were jumping and cheering for the children. Adorning red and green, the elves guided the kids around the set up. Rows of bicycles were set up for the children to take back home, along with books, toys, and candy. Singing, dancing, playing and storytelling took place during the happy event.
“This is what Christmas is all about,” said a representative for the Salvation Army.
As the families set out for home, soft carols such as Silent Night were crooned by volunteers.
One mother, who lost her husband earlier this year, tearfully stated, “This year is going to be a little different for us, but this night has made it a whole lot better.”
