Ed Bernstein Visits with Candidates for Las Vegas Metro Police Department Sheriff

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 27, 2014 ) Las Vegas, NV -- The Las Vegas Sheriff general elections aren’t until November 4, but this Sunday, the candidates come together for an interview on The Ed Bernstein Show. Joseph Lombardo has served 25 years and is the current Assistant Sheriff. His opposing candidate is Larry Burns, retired Captain who served 27 years on the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.



Assistant Sheriff Lombardo has held multiple leadership roles in the department such as Homeland Security Commander, Search-and-Rescue Commander, Patrol Division Commander, Administrative & Science Division Commander, Technology & Support Division Commander, and the Professional Standards Division Commander.



Lombardo’s dedication to the community and his diverse leadership background are key reasons that his campaign team believe him to be “the most qualified to lead Metro”. His endorsements include Nevada State Law Enforcement Officers’ Association, Clark County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, Asian American Group, Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, Nevada Firearms Coalition, Hispanics in Politics, Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce, Las Vegas Review Journal, Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce, and the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce.



Larry Burns retired in December of 2013, but before that he served in the positions of Training officer for new recruits, Member of the gang intelligence unit, S.W.A.T. team member and leader, Metro academy staff, Patrol Sergeant, Field Training Sergeant, Sergeant, criminal intelligence supervisor transitioning into Homeland Security, S.W.A.T. commander, Executive Lieutenant to the Sheriff, and Captain/Commander.



He considers his proudest achievement to be his success in bringing the community and law enforcement closer together, which resulted in a decrease in violent acts in the area. His endorsements come from several First Responders such as Las Vegas Police Protective Association Metro, Inc., Clark County Fire Fighters Local 1908, North Las Vegas Police Officers Association, Inc., North Las Vegas Police Supervisors Association, Mesquite Police Officers Association, North Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1607, Professional Firefighters of Nevada, and several others. Other endorsements include Citizens for Responsible Government, Southern Nevada Central Labor Council, and the Culinary Union.
