The State of Medical Malpractice in Florida

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 27, 2014 ) Miami, FL -- In July 2006, a client at the University of Florida’s Shands Teaching Hospital was victim to an irreversible mistake during a brain surgery. The client was found to have a non-bleeding aneurysm and underwent surgery to insert coils into the infected area.

During this procedure, one of the arteries in her brain was mistakenly cut and has resulted in a life changing injury. Since the surgery, she has visited the hospital nearly a dozen times for infections that have caused continuing pain and headaches. She has since been awarded $23 million dollars by a six-person Florida jury for the permanent brain damage that she has been forced to live with.

Every year, medical malpractice cases in Florida become more difficult, and the laws become more complex. Over the last few years the leaders of the medical and insurance fields have made it clear that their interests are to make it more complicated for clients to hold hospitals and doctors accountable for their actions and mistakes. Through various sponsored legislation, they have been able to alter legal principles that have been in effect since the founding of the United States.

This has led to a system that requires individuals to seek out a knowledgeable lawyer that focuses on practicing medical malpractice law. If you have suffered an injury as a result of negligence by a doctor or hospital in Florida, having the legal support of a well-versed attorney is imperative.
