Prescription Testosterone Under Investigation By the Attorneys Working With ClassAction.org

(USGovernment-News.Com, February 13, 2014 ) New York, NY – Following the FDA’s announcement that men who use “low T” treatments may be at risk for stroke, heart attack and death, the attorneys working with ClassAction.org are offering free case reviews to men who were prescribed AndroGel or another testosterone treatment. Just days after the FDA’s announcement, several men filed lawsuits against the maker of AndroGel claiming that they suffered from life-threatening cardiac events after using the testosterone gel. These lawsuits claim that the drug’s manufacturer, Abbott Laboratories Inc., failed to adequately warn the public about this risk. In light of these allegations, the attorneys at ClassAction.org are investigating whether the maker of AngroGel may be held liable for allegedly releasing a drug into the marketplace without adequate warnings. To see if you may be able to file a lawsuit, visit http://www.classaction.org/testosterone-therapy today.

On January 31, 2014, the FDA announced that it would be reassessing the safety of prescription testosterone therapies, including AndroGel, after two recent studies linked the treatments to increased rates of heart problems. The first study found that men who used prescription testosterone were at a 30 percent increased risk of death, heart attack or stroke, as compared to those who did not use a “low T” treatment. In the study, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in November of last year, researchers tracked 8,000 men for three years, more than 1,000 of whom underwent testosterone therapy. The second study, which was published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE in January 2014, found that the rates of heart attacks in middle-aged men with a history of heart disease and men ages 65 and older doubled following testosterone treatment. This study tracked more than 56,000 men for one year prior to using prescription testosterone and the three months following treatment.

Although these studies are relatively new, The New York Times reported that similar findings have been seen in studies dating back to 2009. In fact, researchers were forced to halt a study in 2009 after the testosterone gel that was being researched caused heart attacks and cardiac problems in men who were participating in the study. Still, the number of men prescribed testosterone during the last decade has surged, and some of these men do not have a medical condition that is associated with low levels of testosterone, the Times reported. In its announcement, the FDA noted that none of the prescription testosterone products have been approved for use in men with low levels of testosterone who lack an associated medical condition.

Those who suffered from a heart attack, stroke, or any other cardiac event after using AndroGel may have legal recourse. At ClassAction.org, we can help patients get in contact with an attorney who may be able to assist them in filing a lawsuit.
