Riddle & Brantley Reports Bond Lowered for North Carolina State Fair Ride Operator

(USGovernment-News.Com, November 22, 2013 ) RALEIGH, N.C.—Bond has been lowered for the North Carolina State Fair ride operator charged with assault over a malfunctioning fair ride, the Vortex. In a recent court decision bond was lowered from $225,000 to $100,000.

Forty-six-year-old Timothy Dwayne Tutterrow was charged in the injuries of five people when he knowingly tampered with the ride’s safety equipment in October, ignoring fair regulations to speed the entrance and exit of Vortex riders.

Reports say as Tutterrow was offloading riders the Vortex shifted into gear, flinging patrons into the air, injuring four individuals between the ages of 14 and 39-years-old. In the process Tutterrow was injured, and all five were treated at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh. Two of the victims were released immediately after treatment.

Tutterrow, whose charges include felony assault and assault with a deadly weapon on a juvenile, was one of two implicated in the incident. The second man, Joshua Gene Macaroni, 32, is the owner of the Vortex. Macaroni’s business, Family Attractions Amusement Co., is based out of Valdosta, GA. Macaroni was not in North Carolina at the time of the accident but faces the same charges as Tutterrow.
