(USGovernment-News.Com, November 06, 2013 ) Charleston, WV – A new study that appears online in Environmental Health Perspectives has linked two pesticides to endometriosis. The study analyzed more than 240 women with endometriosis and more than 530 health controls. Research found that women who were exposed to Mirex had a 50% higher increased chance of developing endometriosis while women with higher exposure to Beta HCH had a 30 to 70% increased risk.
Mirex and Beta HCH is illegal in the United States but traces of the pesticides are still found in some fish and dairy products. Endometriosis is the growth of uterine tissue outside the uterus that can lead to pain, excessive bleeding, and infertility. Approximately 5 million women suffer from endometriosis.
The exact cause of this painful disorder is unknown and researchers wanted to note the impact of environmental chemicals that were used in the past as well as how some of them are still found in certain products today. In particular Organochlorine pesticides were used between the 1940s and 1960s until the Environmental Protection Agency restricted their use.
Many dangerous drugs and products are recalled each year due to the health hazards they pose. If you believe that a product you or a loved one has used presently or in the past has led to endometriosis or other medical conditions, the victim may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
