(USGovernment-News.Com, October 24, 2013 ) CINCINNATI, OH — The 22-year-old Ohio man who broadcast an Internet video of his own drunken driving confession was handed a six-and-a-half year prison sentence Wednesday, October 23 by Judge Davie Fais.
Matthew Cordle was found guilty of driving while intoxicated and aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of Vincent Canzani. Cordle’s YouTube video marked an unprecedented utilization of social media, though Canzani’s daughter, who was present at the sentencing, expressed her hope that his apology would not negate the severity of the crime Cordle committed against her father.
An attorney for Cordle cited the potential for education in Cordle’s story, saying, “A lot of people could learn a lesson from the message Matthew has sent.”
Cordle, who was the last to speak before the sentence was passed, said, “The true punishment is simply living, living with the knowledge that I took an innocent life. That pain and weight will never go away.”
