(USGovernment-News.Com, October 23, 2013 ) OMAHA, NE - Near the famous Vala’s Pumpkin Patch, traffic safety has become a major concern on Highway 370 as traffic is backed up at times for miles.
The state added stop lights on the highway to help during baseball season after the Omaha Stormchasers and Werner Park moved to Sarpy County. However, when the state expanded the highway near the famous pumpkin patch, the 180th Street crossing was neglected.
At this time of the year the pumpkin patch has nearly 15,000 visitors each day backing up traffic for over one mile ranging from the pumpkin patches gates onto the four lane highway.
Earlier this month, a crash killed a 15 year old and injured two other teenage girls that were traveling in a pack of over 1,000 cars going to the pumpkin patch.
According to the Nebraska Department of Roads, they plan on construction a second traffic light at Highway 370 and 180th street. This light will use a sensor and only change when it recognizes traffic.
