(USGovernment-News.Com, October 22, 2013 ) BATON ROUGE, LA — The death of a female passenger on the Asiana Airlines flight that crashed at San Francisco International Airport July 6 will not be charged to the firefighter who struck and killed her on the tarmac.
The tragic death of 16-year-old Ye Mengyuan came in the aftermath of the crash while she was lying prone on the tarmac. Firefighter Elyse Duckett, 49, responded to the scene and unknowingly rolled over Mengyuan’s body, killing her.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe explained that Duckett would not be charged criminally in Mengyuan’s death, and in a prepared statement noted the number of critically injured passengers that were saved because of Duckett and the other firefighters.
Wagstaffe went on to say that Mengyuan’s death was, “a tragic accident that did not involve any violation of our criminal laws,” while an attorney for Mengyuan’s family expressed no surprise at the lack of criminal charges for Duckett.
