(USGovernment-News.Com, October 17, 2013 ) Knoxville, TN – Late Tuesday evening the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a notice that a U.S. subsidiary of the German pharmaceutical firm B. Braun Melsungen is recalling some antibiotics after visible particles were found in a sample.
Lot H3A744 of Cefepime for Injection USP and Dextrose Injection USP are being recalled after visible particles such as specs of metal, cotton fiber, and hair were found in a sample.
According to the FDA use of the defective product could result in blood clots leading to stroke, heart attack and other adverse medical events. Patients experiencing health problems should contact their physician and report all issues to the company at 1-800-854-6851.
Although no reports have come forward yet, the drug was distributed to hospitals, pharmacies, and medical suppliers nationwide from February 4th to March 1st of this year.
Although drug recalls are reported frequently the government shutdown has slowed the process down and the FDA has even placed a notice on their website that the information posted may not be up to date.
