(USGovernment-News.Com, October 17, 2013 ) CHARLESTON, IL — An elderly driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was involved in a serious vehicle accident on Monday, October 14 when he crossed over traffic and collided with a parked car.
The driver was 76-year-old Cecil Bennett and his wife was the passenger in the truck. According to the report, Bennett was driving northbound on Grand Street when he crossed Route 14 without stopping. After crashing into a parked car in the parking lot of Fred’s, Bennett died and his wife was transported to the hospital for her injuries.
Truck accidents comprised over 10,000 vehicle collisions in Illinois in 2011, according to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The causes of truck and auto accidents can range from driver distraction to vehicle malfunction or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
