(USGovernment-News.Com, October 16, 2013 ) Savannah, GA – A woman who was suffering liver failure after taking a particular brand of diet pills has passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii. The number of cases of acute hepatitis linked to the weight loss supplement has tripled in just a matter of weeks.
Sonnette Marras says she took OxyElite Pro for weeks before she fell ill and began reporting severe bouts of nausea and vomiting; her condition deteriorated quickly and she was placed in a medically induced coma last week.
The state Department of Health is now investigating several cases involving persons who are suffering from liver problems after taking the supplement. At least one person has had a liver transplant while others are reportedly on the waiting list.
OxyElitePro is not the only diet pill involved in the investigation however the State Department refuses to reveal the other one. Currently these reports are only in Hawaii so state investigators are also questioning if the state merely received a bad batch or if others may be in harm’s way.
Part of the issue with the investigation is that the current government shutdown is delaying Federal Drug Administration investigations.
