(USGovernment-News.Com, October 15, 2013 ) Houston, TX – Selman Intermediate and Sealy Junior High students will have an extended weekend as the district has decided to remain closed on Monday after Sunday’s storms. The intermediate and junior high students share a building which sustained flood damage along with the administrative building. The closures will affect more than 900 students and administrators.
The area of Sealy was hit with more than 9 inches of rain over the weekend. Water slipped through the doorways and was found in the hallways, classrooms and one computer lab. Several computers were damaged by the water. Crews were at the buildings through the night working to get the building back in shape and it is expected that the building will reopen Tuesday.
Furthermore, no flood damage was found at Selman Elementary and Sealy High School.
Between 2003 and 2012 flood damage insurance claims averaged $3.0 billion each year. Currently more than 5.5 million people hold flood insurance policies in more than 21,800 communities across the United States. Not all homeowner insurance policies include flood insurance so it is important to check if your policy will take care of damage caused by flooding.
