Adrian PetersonÂ’s Son Brings Attention to Child Abuse Reports Mike Lewis Attorneys

(USGovernment-News.Com, October 15, 2013 ) WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Adrian Peterson, future NFL Hall of Famer, and arguably one of the greatest running backs of all time has had many encounters of brain injuries throughout his lifetime, which he has handled incredibly well, possibly displaying some of these emotions with his incredible ability to maneuver past and through defenders on the football field.

When Peterson was only eight years old, his nine-year old brother Brian was struck by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle. His brother would soon pass away due to a severe brain injury.

When Peterson was 21 years old, his 19-year old brother Chris was shot and killed in Houston. This occurred the night before he took part in the 2007 NFL Combine.

Last week, 28 year old Peterson found that his two-year old son had been killed after being violently shaken by the mother’s boyfriend and would die in the hospital from a brain injury.

On Sunday, heavy hearted Adrian Peterson would go on to play the Carolina Panthers carrying the ball 10 times for a total of 62 yards. As another devastating event has occurred in his family, many were surprised that Peterson was able to play on Sunday.

Adrian Peterson has reportedly indicated that his other son, Adrian Peterson Jr., would never play football. This may be due to the fact that many NFL football players have died from severe dementia due to repeated brain trauma including; Dave Duerson, Andre Waters, Mike Webster, and Junior Seau.

As unfortunate as this incident was, it has brought a great amount of attention to brain injuries suffered by child abuse victims. Every single day an American child suffers from some sort of child abuse, some child abuse statistics include:

•Each 40 seconds, an American child enters the Emergency Room with a new brain injury, equaling 765,000 ER visits each year

•Nearly 1,300 American infants suffer from severe and fatal brain injuries from child abuse each year, while nearly 75 to 85 percent of all brain injuries are not labeled severe or fatal.

•Over 11,000 American children die from brain injuries each year

•Over 80,000 American children are hospitalized from brain injuries each year

Brain injuries have been labeled the number one cause of death and disability for children across the United States. It is the leading public health crisis in the nation and has a tremendous impact on families, as it has on the Peterson family. Simply count to 40 and another brain injury has occurred to a child.

Comparatively, if we compare the number of brain injury cases to that of HIV/AIDs, we will notice that HIV/AIDS has nearly 56,000 cases each year, while there are 765,000 ER visits for childhood brain injuries alone each year.

Having such enormous numbers of brain injuries, we would think that the Federal Government would be doing more to prevent, identify and treat brain injuries; however less than $10 million is directed towards this type of research for our youth, whereas over $4 billion is directed to HIV/AIDS research each year. The NFL alone has spent over three times the amount that our federal government has spent on research on brain injuries.

Following this incident to an American superstars child has brought great attention to the extreme amount of children that are injured each due to child abuse each second, minute, and hour of every day. As Adrian Peterson has done, we can only stay positive in our lives and hope that a change to such unfortunate and sickening acts will soon come.
