(USGovernment-News.Com, October 01, 2013 ) Boynton Beach, FL – An early morning crash left two people injured and 20 homes in Boynton Beach without power. The accident occurred around 4a.m on Boynton Beach Boulevard and began when a Toyota pickup truck rear-ended a Jeep Cherokee as both vehicles headed westbound.
The Jeep rolled and collided with a traffic box while the pick-up truck rammed into a power pole just west of Military Trail. The entire front-end of the pick-up was smashed and power pole fell onto it during the crash.
Both drivers were taken to a local area hospital as they each suffered minor injuries. An investigation is still underway as authorities are determining if the driver of the pick-up was under the influence at the time of the accident.
Some westbound lanes of Boynton Beach Boulevard remained closed as Florida Power & Light crews worked to repair and replace the damaged pole. The 20 homes that were affected by the collision had their power restored within a half hour.
In 2012 there were more than 281,000 traffic collisions reported throughout Florida according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. In Palm Beach County specifically there were more than 15,700 accidents. Furthermore, in Boynton Beach there were more than 600 collisions reported in 2011.
