(USGovernment-News.Com, September 07, 2013 ) Sumter, S.C -- Last week a Sumter grandmother lead police on a car chase while her grandchild was in the backseat of the vehicle. According to authorities the woman crossed the center line, ran several red lights, and almost caused two car accidents. She was also on her cellphone the entire time.
Police are charging Susie Thomas with failing to stop for blue lights, running a red light, reckless driving, child endangerment, and driving with a suspended license.
According to Thomas she did not want to stop the vehicle because she was she had warrants for her arrest in Sumter, Florence and Saluda counties. She is being accused of forgery and counterfeiting.
Thomas’s 4-year-old granddaughter, who was not buckled in, was found crying in the back seat of the vehicle but was not injured during the chase and close-calls.
In South Carolina there were more than 4,900 collisions caused by failing to obey traffic signs and signals and thousands more due to speeding and reckless driving.
