(USGovernment-News.Com, September 04, 2013 ) Ft. Pierce, Fl – A tractor-trailer accident closed both the southbound and northbound lanes of the Ronald Reagan Turnpike for five hours on Tuesday morning.
Around 2:28 in the morning, a crash involving a van and a tractor-trailer set off a chain reaction of accidents involving at least two more tractor-trailers. One of the semis was carrying cigarettes while another was loaded with laundry detergent.
According to reports one of the semi-trailers burst into flames shortly after the collision near mile marker 152. All lanes were blocked just south of mile marker 165 until northbound lanes reopened around 7:30a.m.
Crews arrived to the scene of the collision where three drivers were injured. One of the drivers was transported to a local area hospital. Clean-up crews continue working on clearing all the debris strewn on the roadway and it is expected that all lanes will re-open around noon.
