(USGovernment-News.Com, August 24, 2013 ) Burke County, GA – A logging truck accident early Friday morning in Burke County has left one man dead. According to the Georgia Highway Patrol, the accident happened just after 6a.m on Highway 25 near George Perkins Road.
The accident was a rear-end collision in which a pick-up truck bring driven by Bennie George Taylor, 50, crashed into the logging truck. A log went through the pick-up truck’s window and killed the driver. The identity of the pick-up driver has not been released as the family has not yet been notified. According to the coroner, Taylor may have been speeding at the time of the accident and fell asleep at the wheel.
It is estimated that between 2005 and 2008 there were more than 3,300 logging truck and logging semi-trailer accidents in Georgia. Following too closely was the fifth leading cause of these accidents. Furthermore, data from the Georgia Highway Safety Office indicates that in 2006 there were more than 270 logging truck accidents in the state, 11 of which were fatal.
