(USGovernment-News.Com, August 09, 2013 ) Knoxville, TN. Toyota has announced a recall that will affect approximately 342, 000 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab trucks. The trucks are being recalled due to potentially faulty seatbelts.
According to Toyota the screws that attach the seatbelt to the pre-tensioner, which help keep riders in their seat, can become loose or detach and affect the performance of the seatbelt.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Toyota received two reports of the problem, one in November 2011 and another in February 2012. In 2013 they received two more reports, one from Canada and another in the United States.
The investigation indicated that the four screws that fasten the pre-tensioner to the retractor were completely unthreaded, Toyota told NHTSA.
Further testing was done and it was determined that the problem was only seen in the Access Cab models, particularly those manufactured between 2004 and 2011. Toyota had said that owners affected will be notified by mail of the problem.
