Tennessee Highway Patrol Urges Drivers to be Cautious as New School Year Approaches Reports Greg Coleman Law

(USGovernment-News.Com, August 02, 2013 ) KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Highway Patrol is urging drivers to be extra cautious as the new school year gets underway the first week of August.

During the academic year of 2012 and 2013 state troopers issued more than 5,200 citations which was a 36 percent increase from the previous school year. The number of accidents in school zones decreased between 2008 and 2012 as did the number of school-bus related accidents; however drivers are still being urged to be careful.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 600,000 Tennessee students ride the bus each weekday. Since the year 2000 approximately 1,200 school bus-related accidents have been reported throughout the United States with an estimated 130 school-aged children suffering fatal injuries.

The THP is urging parents and motorists to be cautious when sharing the road with school buses. Those who are taking their children to school should be mindful of their speed and driving technique when in a school-zone. Before the school year begins children should be taught to look both ways before crossing the road and what to do after exiting the school bus at their designated stop.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a school bus accident caused by a reckless driver, the victim may be entitled to compensation for property damage, medical bills, pain and suffering, and more.

An experienced Knoxville accident attorney can help you determine if you may be eligible to make a claim. For more information on your legal rights, visit www.gregcolemanlaw.com.
