(USGovernment-News.Com, July 26, 2013 ) RALEIGH, N.C.—Teen Driving Solutions, a Raleigh, N.C. driving school, is giving young North Carolina drivers a chance to see just how dangerous distracted driving can be. Raleigh news station WRAL Channel 5 broke the story and visited the school in July.
The school’s specialized course is aimed at testing drivers’ abilities, first as they are completely focused on the course and then several more times while they are asked to complete various challenging mental tasks. The goal is to show teenaged drivers just how much they actually miss when they are distracted even a small amount.
Instructor Ken Frederick remarked that one test driver only stopped completely at the course’s stop sign during the focused drive, and during the distracted drives he slowed when he approached the sign, but drove through it. The distracted drives consisted of the same construction cone-lined route as the focused drive, except the driver was engaged in conversation or required to count backwards from 100 in increments of three.
