(USGovernment-News.Com, July 25, 2013 ) SACRAMENTO, CA – The Arnold Law Firm, a local personal injury firm that often represents seniors in nursing home neglect cases, reports that two grants will temporarily boost the legal services available to local seniors through the non-profit law firm Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC). The firm operates in 23 counties, providing civil representation to low-income residents over 60.
The grants, which provide funds over a span of 18 months, could double the firm’s currently available legal assistance, potentially adding up to 18 full-time attorneys to the staff. Interviews are underway and new hires are expected to be placed by October.
Joyce Hayes, executive director of the Humboldt Senior Resource Center, calls the grants great news.
“Legal service is a constant request at our reception desk,” she said, “We get multiple calls daily.”
Additionally, the grants could allow LSNC to work more closely with the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) and have more of a presence in senior centers. The grants are being funded largely by National Mortgage Settlement Funds and the Department of Managed Health Care, respectively.
LSNC relies on funding on the federal, state and local level, and contracts with Area 1 Agency on Aging and other Northern California agencies. The firm practices in areas of law that are important to the senior population, such as health consumer issues, foreclosure prevention and eviction defense. The firm is headquartered in Sacramento and has five regional offices throughout Northern California.
