(USGovernment-News.Com, July 21, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Created by Ping4 Inc., the Ping4 Citizens Alert app uses location based technology working with local emergency services and police station to provide the most precise, hyper local information to help notify individuals when their safety may be compromised. Worcester County decided to utilize the technology to help made the most out of effective public safety communications.
Public alerts are sent to a person with the Ping4alerts app on their smartphone or mobile device, including missing persons, severe weather, traffic situations, and fast-moving emergency situations. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, or MEMA, already utilizes the system for several law enforcement agencies, but Sheriff Evangelidis will be the first in New England to deploy the system for county-wide public jurisdiction.
Citizen alerts issued by the Sheriff’s office will provide real-time emergency messaging to individuals in a geographically defined area, so the person must utilize location services on their phones. The app is free for download on the Worcester County Sheriff’s website, and will utilize GPS, cellular networks and Wi-fi hotspots, so no charges will incur for data plan users.
Evangelidis is excited about this new service for his local citizens, because they will be able to instantly notify most citizens about existing local dangers and emergency situations immediately, which could save lives and ultimately keep the community as safe as possible.
