(USGovernment-News.Com, July 09, 2013 ) Palm Beach, FL – Beginning July 8th, the Flagler Memorial Bridge that connects West Palm Beach and Palm Beach will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for the next few months.
Construction on the new bridge to-be-located just south of the old bridge began early however that caused cracks and shifts in the original bridge. The cracks and shifts means the old bridge has to undergo foundation work and while it is being completed the bridge must remain in its open position causing drivers to detour to the Royal Park Bridge. It is unknown how long the bridge will be closed for.
If you or anyone you know intends to take their boat out, the channel opening underneath the Flagler Memorial Bridge will be restricted to 25 feet-wide during the closure of the bridge.
Although much of the construction will be on the bridge, drivers must keep a watchful eye out for construction workers and other drivers who may not be aware that the bridge is closed in order to avoid being involved in an accident. According to the U.S Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration there were 87,606 construction-zone accidents in 2010. Most commonly drivers were involved in rear-end collisions during nighttime construction.
