(USGovernment-News.Com, July 03, 2013 ) Dublin, Ireland -- Crowell & Moring, a D.C. council law firm published a confidential report that studied 165 reports that Human Rights Watch alleged were missing or not properly investigated. While the law firm credits the human rights group for looking into a part of the police force that isn’t often discussed and raved that they were a catalyst for change, the manner in which they carried out their own study was faulty.
Led by two former prosecutors, the investigators did urge police in the D.C. area to change he way they communicate with rape victims and noted that there were several mistakes made in over 1,500 cases that were studied by Human Rights Watch from October of 2008 to September of 2011.
Police detectives had falsely classified at least eight cases and closed even more cases too early. However, the law firm criticized Human Rights Watch for putting in filler information in its report from eight women with 100 separate stories and spreading almost 200 pages, making it look like their accounts represented the majority of cases.
The Human Rights Watch report, led by Sara Darehshori, was released in January. State and city police see the report as inflammatory for accusing D.C. police for callously disregarding rape victims and their cases.
