New Truck Driving Safety Regulations to Take Effect Next Week Reports Mike Lewis Attorneys

(USGovernment-News.Com, June 26, 2013 ) GREENSBORO, N.C. — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s website released a statement that a new law will take effect on July 1st, 2014. The new law was designed to help prevent crashes related to driver fatigue.

Commercial truck drivers are currently allowed to work 82 hours per week. Under the new law, drivers will be limited to working 70 hours per week. The new safety requirements for commercial truck drivers will “reduce by 12 hours the maximum number of hours a truck driver can work within a week,” explained a press release on the U.S. Department of Transportation website.

In addition to reducing the number of total working hours, drivers will also be required to take a 30 minute break for every 8 hours they spend behind the wheel. Many trucking companies will have to hire extra drivers and make changes to their schedules. Drivers and companies found in violation of this new law can be fined and ticketed.

Mike Lewis Attorneys commends these new regulations because they know all too well the dangers of 18-wheeler accidents and other types of truck accidents. If you or a loved one has been injured in a large truck accident caused by driver fatigue, the victim may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and more.
