Study Shows UK Women Not Paying Into Pension After Divorce

(USGovernment-News.Com, April 28, 2013 ) Dublin 2, Ireland -- There are nearly 20% of UK women who have stopped paying into pension plans following a divorce, according to a study from UK Insurance company Phoenix Group.

The research that was recently released additionally expressed that half of the now-divorced women did not make a single contribution to a pension plan while they were married. Only one in six had the rights to their ex-husband's pension after the separation. That is a surprising number, given the pension plan is likely one of the marriage's most capable assets after an owned property. A pension is the money accrued by an individual that is utilized as a stipend payment to assure income for the individual or couple. The money is developed through personal payments made to the fund. The current state pension allowance is £ 64.40 per week . The married couple's pension allowance is currently £ 171.85.

“It’s clear that divorced women face an uncertain future in retirement,” spokesperson Shellie Wells said in the press release. “Not only have many given up rights to their husband’s pension
provision, they have often stopped paying into their own pension plan; dipped into savings and

at worst, lost contact with any savings they have accrued.”

That was not the only surprise found within the statistics, however, as researchers noted 38% of divorcees did not know what financial settlement they received following the split. The findings were based upon an online survey of 2,012 divorced women within the United Kingdom that were aged 40 or higher.
