Multiple Crashes on Interstate 65 Cause Major Delays on Friday Morning Reports Citrin Law Firm

(USGovernment-News.Com, April 20, 2013 ) Birmingham, AL – As rain continued to drench the Birmingham area several traffic crashes were being reported along Interstate 65. One major crash on southbound I-65 near Daniel Payne Drive has left two individuals dead while another near Green Spring Avenue has caused major injuries, reports indicate that one person was ejected from the vehicle.

Around 4:15a.m police, firefighters, and paramedics responded to a crash involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. At the time of the wreck the motorcycle was riding along the highway when the pedestrian tried to cross the interstates, both the motorcyclist and pedestrian were killed in the accident.

At about 6:15a.m three more car collisions occurred including a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound side of the interstate. Along with delays, the crashes closed down several lanes bringing much of the traffic to a complete standstill.

Altogether on Friday morning more than three crashes were reportedly caused by hydroplaning due to the heavy rains of the night before. Authorities were urging drivers to slow down and be aware of the dangers of hydroplaning as the rains had left many puddles behind.

In 2011 approximately 12% of all motor vehicle collisions in the state of Alabama occurred during rainy conditions, furthermore nearly 2,000 accidents involved a driver who could not control their vehicle. Hydroplaning is a very scary situation that results in the loss of control of a vehicle, often leading to serious car crashes.

If you or a loved one has been involved in an accident caused by a negligent driver during bad weather conditions, the victim may be entitled to compensation for property damage, medical bills, lost wages, and more.
